Disagree curiously.

The classroom is a place to challenge and be challenged.

But that can be…challenging.

With consulting services, stock and customized resources, and topic-specific initiatives, we support schools and universities in facilitating curious and constructive disagreement in and out of the classroom.

Vision

WE ENVISION

  • impassioned and respectful disagreement,

  • in dynamic campus discussions,

  • where curiosity and open-mindedness thrive,

  • and all participants feel seen.

Beliefs

PROBLEM STATEMENT

  1. When it comes to ideas which challenge us, many either censor disagreement, or react emotionally, instead of engaging with curiosity toward the idea and respect toward the person

  2. This failure to engage leads to poor academic outcomes, siloed communities, and a narrower understanding of the world

WHAT WE BELIEVE

  • There are many reasons to engage with people and ideas you disagree with

  • There are multiple true narratives in every story

  • Disagreement is important when it is constructive

  • Cultivating curiosity will lead to more willingness to engage, and open-mindedness toward challenging ideas

The Institute for Multipartisan Education is a resource hub dedicated to supporting schools and universities in facilitating curious and constructive disagreement in the classroom.

We believe that curiosity is the antidote to today’s polarized educational institutions, but that it is constrained by well-intentioned layers of protection from challenging ideas.

With custom consulting and resource development, as well as wholesale toolkits and initiatives, we help professors, teachers, and students foster and engage with polarizing topics while maintaining a commitment to inclusion and justice.
